Soapnuts are an all-natural detergent, ideal for use as an alternative to manufactured chemical detergents. The shell of the soapnut contains saponin, which releases its cleaning agents when immersed in water. Soapnuts are gentler on the skin than chemical detergents, and there are no reported cases of allergic reactions to the product. Soapnuts include no artificial elements, and therefore produce no unnatural smell on laundered clothing. HOW TO USE: Place 4 or 5 soapnut shell halves in a small cotton bag and place with your laundry inside the washing machine. You will not need any additional detergents. Wash as usual and dispose of the used shells. You can use the shells up to three times if you wash in cold or warm(85-150 degree) water. The shells should be used only once at higher temperatures. HOW TO MAKE A LIQUID: Take 7 or 8 soapnuts and crunch them into smaller pieces. Place in a small sauce pan with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then let simmer for 5-10 minutes. Pour the liquid into a container and throw away the used soapnuts. This liquid will not create many suds. You can use a pump bottle to create a foam for a more common type of liquid. Otherwise, you can use the straight liquid, but it feels almost like water and takes some getting used to. You will use more than you need to in the beginning. Soapnuts can also be safely used as a shampoo (including babies and pets). It is gentle and safe. If you suffer from allergies or excema you should be able to use the soapnut liquid without any harm coming to your skin. Again, it is an all natural product. Soapnut liquid can be used to clean floors, cars, ranges, cabinets, toilets, bathtubs, or any other things you would normally clean with a liquid. The smell is a nutty smell and very faint, so you may want to add some essential oil to change the smell. You can add as much or as little as you want. The choice is yours.
